There is some (American) saying that says 'Saved by the bell', the saying originates from school classes and it means that some pupil does not have to answer the question because the bell to the next classes (or the bell to a break) is ringing. Here in the Dutch landscape we have the habit that the pupil in question still has to answer the question and only when the teacher gives the signal the pupils can go.

Israel is allowed to think what exactly 'the bell' is as found in the quotes below, but you have some lucky escape and I will not ask for (big) blasts at 'outside Israel' Israeli targets. And of course also not for blasting inside Israel because this would spoil the fun of car driving on the map of roads.
No, blasting inside Israel would be horrible; Suppose one of those theoretical cars is loaded with napalm and the whole roadmap made from White House paper would burn to ashes, what to do then? What to do then?

Back to the stuff involved, the Media reports are a bit mixed. In the quoted Media report below there is talk of 4 cities handed over to the Palestines so they can take care of the so called 'security issues'. In most other reports there is talk about 2 cities. Also Arafat is allowed to visit the grave of his sister and this is some interesting development to. So all in all I am satisfied with the (small) developments in these few days, lets hope speed stays the same. Lets hope that because after all 2 or 4 cities may look like a big step but the road has many miles to go... And last but not least I would like to remark that this achievement is only to be written on the conto of Abu Mazen, Mohammad Dahlan & the Israeli counterpart Shaul Mofaz. (Remark: I am not ironic or so with this, the negotiations are difficult enough so you sure have my compliments on this!)

Now we could read the quotes:

Israel to hand towns to Palestinian control.

15 August  2003 - Time 19:22:52

Israel has agreed to hand four more West Bank towns to Palestinian control, a Palestinian official said tonight.

The agreement in principle was reached in a meeting between Israeli Defence Minister Shaul Mofaz and Palestinian Security Chief Mohammad Dahlan, said the official.

The towns to be handed over will be Ramallah, Tulkarem, Qalqiliya and Jericho, he said, adding that details of the hand over would be discussed in another meeting on Sunday.

Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat has his West Bank headquarters in Ramallah.

Israel also announced that it will permit Yasser Arafat to travel to the Gaza Strip to visit the grave of his sister Yousra, who died earlier this week and was buried in Gaza City, Israel TV reported.

It would be Arafat’s first time leaving his besieged compound in Ramallah in more than a year and a half.

Palestinian Security Chief Mohammad Dahlan said: “We have agreed on Israeli withdrawal from four Palestinian towns in the West Bank in the coming two weeks,” Dahlan said.

“The meeting was very constructive.”

Israeli officials confirmed that the four towns would be handed over within two weeks, starting next week with Jericho and Qalqiliya.

The other two cities were to be handed over in the following week providing certain conditions are met, said Shirli Eden, a spokeswoman for the Israeli Defence Ministry.

She said the conditions include: “No terrorist attacks, the Palestinians begin to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure and the Palestinians create an apparatus for dealing with wanted people.”

Eden added that Israel will make a number of humanitarian gestures, including reducing the number of roadblocks in the West Bank and providing additional permits for Palestinian workers in Israel.

At the end a completely different remark upon the last with these 'permit stuff' and so. May be this remark is completely not needed because this kind of problem simply has never been there into Israel:

The minimum wages problem & where does the income tax go to?

Yes, how about the minimum wages? I would like to see that the 'imported labor' from the Palestines into Israel has the same minimum wages as the Israelis have. That is one thing.
And the (eventual) income tax could be flowing to the 'right side' too, that means the Palestine side of course.

That is all, but of course the Israelis have such a high standard of moral values that it is rather unlikely that imported labor is far more cheaper than the Israeli minimum wages. I just cannot imagine this...

But if it is, you better jump Israel and jump instead of taking big steps on this map of roads. Jump, run & speed up but always grow exponentionally fast in smartness & wealth for the population.

Your humble servant, Reinko Venema.
